Install the system using an NVMe SSD enclosure

This guide explains how to install the system to an NVMe SSD using an M.2 NVMe SSD enclosure.

warning

Installing the system will format the NVMe SSD. Please back up any important data in advance!

Prerequisites

Hardware Requirements

You need to prepare the following hardware devices in advance:

  • M.2 NVMe SSD
  • M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure

Hardware Connection

Install the M.2 NVMe SSD into the M.2 NVMe SSD enclosure, then connect the enclosure to your computer.

System Installation

Download System Image

Use a PC to access the Downloads page and download the system image file to your local machine.

Image Note

The downloaded system image is a compressed file that needs to be extracted before use!

Install System Image

Use Balena Etcher software to install the system image to the M.2 NVMe SSD.

Balena Etcher

For installation and usage of Balena Etcher, please refer to the Etcher Guide tutorial.

Select System Image

Click the Flash from file option and select the system image file you downloaded and extracted earlier.

Select Storage Device

Click the Select target option and choose the M.2 NVMe SSD device.

Start Flashing

Click the Flash! option to start flashing the system image to the M.2 NVMe SSD.

After successfully installing the system image, close the Etcher software!

Boot the system

NVMe boot

To boot the system from an NVMe SSD, you must flash the SPI boot firmware first. If you have not flashed the SPI boot firmware yet, please refer to the Erase / Flash SPI Flash guide.

After the system installation is complete, install the NVMe SSD into the NVMe SSD slot on the Radxa E24C, then power the board with a 12V DC power adapter to boot the system.

Detailed steps:

  1. Install the NVMe SSD

  2. Connect the display and the board using an HDMI / DP cable

  3. Power the Radxa E24C with a 12V DC power adapter

Log in to the system

When you boot the system for the first time, you need to log in with the default username and password.

The default credentials for Radxa OS are as follows:

Use the system

After logging in successfully, you can configure the system and start development on the Radxa E24C.
